Currently living in Titchfiled, Rob is the Project Manager for the Land Rover BAR Academy. He has lots of experience in the sailing world having been an Olympic sailing coach for twenty years since 1984. In addition to that, Rob was the Sailing / Venue Manager for the London 2012 Olympics. During the ACWS Portsmouth, Rob acted as Racing Director for Team Origin Events. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf and going on long bike rides.

Sam's role onboard the Land Rover BAR Academy GC32 is Jib Trimmer. He was brought up around boats and started sailing at the age of 9, racing Optimist Dinghies. By the age of 13 he had progressed into the 29ers where he competed in many national and world youth championships, including the RYA Volvo Youth Nationals in 2011 were he won Gold. Further training led to Sam moving up into the 49er fleet where he claimed 3rd in the Junior Worlds 2015. Other hobbies include cycling, swimming and kayaking.

Will Alloway juggles an intense schedule, balancing his time between the Land Rover BAR Academy, an Olympic 49er Campaign and a degree in Maritime Law at Plymouth University. From an early age Alloway wanted to make sailing his life. He learnt in dinghies, following the RYA’s development route into two-handed skiffs and has won a number of titles, notably the 29er (Youth skiff class) Nationals in 2012.
Alloway is currently campaigning for a place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the 49er class with Henry Lloyd Williams, looking to bring back more sailing gold for Great Britain. He has a Sporting Excellence Scholarship from Plymouth University which helps him to fund his sailing dream, travelling to events around the world with the 49er.
In his spare time, Will enjoys shooting.
Owen's role on the Land Rover BAR Academy team is helmsman. He is currently studying Mathematics BSC at the University of Bath alongside training for an Olympic Campaign in the Nacra17. Owen has taken to developing his sailing techniques through a large variety of classes and crew partnerships and has been crowned 29er National Champion, RS Feva World Champion and competed in the Red Bull Foiling Generation (5th/6th). In his spare time, he enjoys playing the piano and being out on his bike.

Rob Bunce's role onboard the Land Rover BAR Academy's GC32 is Skipper and Float. Sailing since the age of 4, Rob has always had a passion for sport, especially water based activities. Living in land-locked Wiltshire never stopped Rob heading to the coast every weekend to nuture his love for sailing. He has competed in the 2015 Solitaire Du Figaro offshore race and placed 1st in the TP52 Antigua Week. Rob was part of the British Keelboat Academy in 2013 and embarked on the world-famous 608-mile Fastnet Offshore race where they finished 6th overall. Rob also enjoys cycling, kitesurfing and surfing as well as hockey; where he was on the West of England Hockey Team 2010-2011.

Oli has always had a passion for sport but his real interest for sailing took off at the age of 6, when his parents took him Optimist sailing on a small lake. A few years later he joined his local sailing club - Pevensey Bay Sailing Club, Eastbourne and trained in a Topper before being accepted to join the RYA Youth Squad. After training hard, Oli moved up into the multihulls and advanced through to the National Squad. At the age of 17, he won the first of two youth national championships which led going to the ISAF Youth Worlds twice and winning Bronze in 2013 in Cyprus - a career highlight so far. At the same time as applying for the Land Rover BAR Academy, Oli also carried out a 3 month internship with the Land Rover BAR Shore Team, learning vital boat building and rigging skills. His passion for elite sport lead him to studying Sport & Exercise Science at Portsmouth University, where he is currently in his second year.

Matt joins the Land Rover BAR Academy as bowman / float after a successful trial at Act 3 of the 2017 Extreme Sailing Series in Madeira. He started sailing at eight years old and proceeded into Toppers, competing at World and National events. In 2012, Matt won the NSSA Mount Hayes trophy. He went on to sail Lasers and 29ers at National level before getting into yacht racing. Matt has competed with high level teams such as Invictus, Ker 40+ winning various National Championships as well as competing in many offshore races in the Fastnet such as Round Ireland Race and Middle Sea Race. He has also helped Team Auqa, RC44, with some shore team work. Matt studied BEng Yacht Production and Surveying at Southampton University and enjoys clay pigeon shooting, tennis and a round of golf in his spare time.

Elliot, orginally from Macclesfield, joins the Land Rover BAR Academy as helmsman. His first exprience of sailing was at the age of six in Anglessey with his grandparents. He is a member of the British Sailing Team, competing in the Laser Class and has won a Silver medal in Weymouth World Cup 2016, placed 4th in Laser Europeans 2015 and holds 8 Radial / Standard U19/U21 European / World medals. His ambition is to win campaign in the Olympics. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling and listening to music.

21 year old Adam Kay, from Southampton, joins the Land Rover BAR Academy as Jib Trimmer / Float. Kay worked his way up through the RYA's Junior and Youth squads alongside studying for a Level 2 in Boat Building at Southampton City College and working at GP Sails gaining key sailmaking and rigging skills. He began racing on yachts and has crewed on everything from Quarter Tonners through J122's, First 40, J109's and GP42s. Foiling in the Nacra 20 introduced Adam to the world of high performance catamarans. At the age of 17, he was asked to help out on the Extreme Sailing Series (ESS) circuit for its then sponsor, Land Rover. Adam continues to work at GP Sails when he's not training or sailing for the Land Rover BAR Academy. Other hobbies include snowboarding.
Chris joins the Land Rover BAR Academy team as helm. He grew up racing Optimist dinghies with the RYA Squad before moving on Fevas where he was crowned RS Feva World Champion in 2008. After a lot of training, he moved into the 420 class as a youth before progressing to the 49er class and joining the British Sailing Team. He came 3rd in the 49er U24's Worlds in 2015 and has multiple National Championship titles in the J80. Alongisde, competiting with the 49ers, Chris completed his degree in BEng Marine Technology at Plymouth University with First Class Honours. In his spare time, Chris enjoys a round of golf and cycling.
Sailing Team Lead CoachAndrew WalshSailing Team Lead Coach
Andrew 'Walshy' Walsh is the Land Rover BAR Academy's Lead Coach. Walshy graduated from Exeter Univeristy with a degree in Sports and Exercise Science whilst managing an intense sailing career. He competed in a number of youth European and National championships in the Laser class, holds wins in the multihull national championships in F18's and Tornado as well as ranked top ten in the world during his Torando Olympic Campaign from 2004 -2008. Walshy also competed as helm in the Extreme Sailing Series (ESS) for a number of years and later went on to coach Oman The Wave team to a successful win during the Extreme Sailing Series 2015. In 2014, Walshy placed 6th at the Worlds in a Nacra. Walshy also coaches olympic class sailing (49er, Nacra and Laser). In his spare time, he enjoys windsurfing, kiting and cycling.
